Planting an ACRE of land in cover crops!
Each year FOUA offers warm and cool season cover crop mix to Arlington gardeners as part of a project to cover one ACRE of land in Arlington using cooperative regenerative practices. Through decentralized network of personal, community, and Plot Against Hunger gardens, FOUA provides means for neighbors to collectively nourish and revitalize over an acre of land together!

Tips for fall planting-
- Best time to plant is mid October – late November
- Fork or rake soil to loosen and smooth the top 2″
- Broadcast seed by hand over area approximately 10′ x 10′
- Lightly mulch and tamp to ensure soil contact
- Deeply water, then keep soil damp for next week
- Take lots of pictures! Post to social with #arlingtonacre
Tips for spring termination-
- Plants can be pulled by hand when still small in early spring
- Better to avoid soil disturbance and leave the roots in place
- Wait until late spring or after flowering begins
- Use string trimmer or knife to cut down to dirt level
- Leave no part of plant above soil level
- Evenly rake green mulch back onto the cleared area
- Cover with another deep layer of brown leaf mulch or straw
