Yorktown High School student Nate Hankins started a school garden with the help of other students to grow fresh vegetables for local food pantries through the Plot Against Hunger program. The Yorktown High School garden is one of several gardens at schools throughout Arlington County. In this video, Nate and other students talk about why they have school gardens and put out a call for more volunteers. School gardens not only contribute to addressing food insecurity in our community, they provide green spaces that support mental health, and offer necessary outdoor learning spaces for students, especially during this time of the pandemic. Please watch Nate’s video and sign up to volunteer here. You can also support the school gardens by making a donation.
